The Joy of Shoes

Retro Chick has new shoes. I wore them for the first time to a party last Saturday where I received many comments and compliments on my lovely new shoes. They are white fabric peep toes with tiny little black skulls and crossbones all over them, and they are, quite frankly, the best thing I own.

I now find myself desperately trying to think of new places to wear them. Trying to arrange dinner dates and party invites simply as a place to wear my lovely new shoes is probably a little sad, but such is the power of the NEW SHOE.

New shoes can make even the most tired old outfit feel sparkly and new. They change the way you walk and they change the way you feel. Call me shallow but even a shiny new pair of trainers can make me feel "hey, look at me!".

Shoes will never let you down the way your fabulous new dress will, too much pizza and your shoes won't get tight and chastise you for being a pig. No one will ever take a photo of you in your new shoes that will make you realise they make your arms look fat. They are the perfect self esteem purchase!

A pair of diamante encrusted T bar Sandals are guaranteed to make you feel like a Princess. Jewellery is for your feet too!

Irregular Choice Can Can Ribbon Tie Court from Schuh.

Super funky and unusual shoes that just HAVE to make your feet the centre of EVERYONEs attention!

Wooden Sole Woven Mules Size 8 available from Retro Chick.

Christian Louboutin Catenita platform pumps available from net a porter.

They may be pricey, but these are essentially a substitute for self confidence and self esteem. Who can feel stupid, fat or ugly with a pair of these babies on their feet.

Sadly merely an aspiration for most of us who have to take the more complex route and develop actual skills, self esteem and confidence to get us by, which is, mercifully, free.

Retro Gold Metallic flats in a size 7 available from Retro Chick.

Don't do heels? Don't dispair! That doesn't mean your feet can't rock! These gold metallic peep toe flats look stunning worn with a dramatic dark coloured pedicure and a swagger in your walk.

Far too Competitive

I was at a party on Saturday, a friends 30th, which had been themed as a kids party. We were playing musical chairs, when it suddenly occured to me that I was far too keen to win for a girl wearing 3 inch heels after a few glasses of wine, and that it was probably all about to end in tears, so I ducked out gracefully and let someone in more sensible shoes take the glory, but it wasn't easy!

Earlier on this week I found myself obsessing about the fact that I was only rated 6th out of my friends on the
"Whose got the biggest brain?" challenge on Facebook. This is mostly due to my total inability to process numbers at any speed at all, therefore meaning that my score in this area stays distressingly low. After several wasted days I have had to finally conclude that my brain is the size of a "Space Ace" and that is where it is going to stay and that no matter how frustrated I may be by my inability to prove that I really do have the brain of a "cyborg" my time would be better spent elsewhere. By trying (and sadly still failing) to thrash people at Scrabulous for instance.....

So being competitive is bad if it means that I'm going to allow myself to feel distressed by my score on a Facebook application. But on the other hand it's what gives me my drive to succeed. My competitive nature gives me the drive to want Retro Chick to be as successful as my other, more established, competitors and is therefore making me constantly look for new stock sources and get more and more pieces up for sale. I have found a new vintage supplier and am hoping to be getting some great new stock in the next few weeks.

In the meantime you can come and join Retro Chick on Facebook I need more fans, there's other fan pages to beat......

Wow. A blog.

So. Retro Chick has taken the decision to start a blog.

I can share exciting tips and bargains. Point out great new things in my shop and probably no one will read it.

I took the decision to jump off the corporate ladder, where I had made it as far as about the second rung, and start my own business in November 2007.

Currently trading on Ebay I'm in the midst of looking to start my own website with the hope of eventually having a real bricks and mortar shop. Starting a new retail business in the midst of a massive credit crunch might not sound bright, but hey, who can see the future?!

I love looking for bargains. I love fashion, but I don't feel that I need to own the latest must have bag or pair of shoes, and if I liked them last year I probably still like them now.

Forever on a shoestring, hunting out bargains is a bit of an obsession, and I always found Ebay the best place to start, things that other people miss whilst browsing that go unsold and unloved makes me sad. All lovely things deserve to be loved and worn and shown off, so I decided why restrict myself to the stuff that comes in my size?

So now I sell vintage and pre owned clothing. I love retro style and try and get my hands on as much of it as possible, but I beleive everything has merit if you have the imagination and style to look for it, and making people see that potential is great fun.

Belts, bangles and beads can turn the most unlikely thing into a super stylish new favourite. Put that hideous lycra mini dress over skinny jeans and belt it in with a cinch belt and all of a sudden it's a fantastic new retro top.

So far I'm loving it, slow times and all.

So I guess that's it for blog number one.

More soon!
